Our Story
Miramax Book was founded by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, the creators of Miramax Films, with the original goal of publishing books tied to their movies.
Beginning in 2000, under the leadership of president and editor-in-chief Jonathan Burnham, the company expanded its focus to include a wide range of works. It published memoirs from notable figures like Madeleine Albright and Rudy Giuliani, as well as acclaimed fiction such as Helen DeWitt's The Last Samurai.
The imprint was initially part of Miramax's Talk Media division, known as Talk Miramax Book. This period saw it publish works from high-profile authors and achieve significant success, with several titles becoming national bestsellers. It was later rebranded as Miramax Book after the departure of Talk Media's chair, Tina Brown.
In 2004, Miramax Book acquired the manuscript for Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief, the first book in what would become the bestselling Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. Following the Weinsteins' split from Disney in 2005, the book division eventually folded into Hyperion Books in late 2007.
